Opening prayer – Msgr. Richardson

 

Approval of September minutes – approved by consensus

 

Ø      Will now be posted on website on school board page

 

Chairperson’s Remarks – Dan Bates

Ø      Chairperson meeting regularly with Msgr. and Sister B.

Ø      With new Constitution and Bylaws, Executive Committee now comprised of Pastor, Principal and Board Chairperson

Ø      New committee formed: Strategic Planning and Policy Committee

o       Comprised of current year officers

o       To compile official STS policy handbook and review policy action areas for each year

Ø      Called To Govern –

o       Directives on how diocesan boards should work

o       Copies to be distributed to Board members

o       Operating committees within school fall under School Board or Pastoral Council

Ø      Moving Smart Money/Home School – Fundraising efforts under Development Committee;

o       will report to them

o       Still operate autonomously, maintain separate operating budget, etc.

§         S. Kreysar point of contact for Home School

§         P. Barbush point of contact for Smart Money

o       Need to move larger Home School purchases (fixtures, etc.) into Board budget as line items

Ø      Race for Education – Scheduled for 2003 calendar year

o       Moving this fund-raiser to Development, with help from Technology and Marketing Committees

o       Tentatively set for September 2003

Academic Update – Student Council President Olivia Alford

Ø      STS Student Council comprised of 7th and 8th graders, elected by peers

Ø      Other current officers introduced:

o       Lauren Polacheck, vice-president,

o       Laurel Montecalvo, secretary;

o       Rachel Marchand, treasurer;

o       Kevin Braun, attendance clerk

Ø      Classroom representatives:       

o       Ali Ryan and Quintin Gabler (7A);

o       Alyssa Diminick and Kailey McGuire (7B);

o       Brendan King and Caitlin Kaufold (7C);

o       Meg Clark and Steven Costa (8A);

o       Marisa Beauduy and Danny Hocker (8B)

Ø      Initiated after 1st school year mass

Ø      Meetings every other Thursday

Ø      Organizes dances, Red Ribbon Week, prayer services, spirit week, spring kickball tournament, festivities for St. Nicholas Day, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter

Ø      Assists administration at Back-to-School Night, Information Night, New Families Ice Cream Social

Ø      Faculty advisor – Mrs. Michelle Banks

Ø      Student Council offers to assist Board in any projects they may have

Ø      PALs – 1st meeting September 24

o       Roles defined

o       Next meeting tomorrow night

Ø      1st Monday lecture series – approx. 90 parents attended

Ø      1st Lunch bunch held earlier this month

Ø      Assembly today – Holocaust survivor Well received by students

Ø      Next assembly re author of Elvin The Elf

Ø      Directories distributed

Ø      Entertainment Books currently being sold

Ø      Citrus Sale in December

Ø      1900 subs sold – pick up later this month

Ø      Muffins with Mom – November 19

 

Committee Reports

Ø      Development – Pam Barbush/Stephanie Kreysar

o       Committee met October 9

o       Estimate $80,000 total targeted income for year

o       Annual appeal coming up

o       Golf tourney netted $5600 – much larger than expected

o       Service directory in the works

o       Grant writing – 4-5 being looked at now

§         Whitaker Center as one example

§         Consideration given to hiring grant writing company

o       Consideration of bequest and memorials committee

o       Gala kick-off meeting earlier this month

§         April 12

§         Reduced ticket prices – $85/single ticket; $150/couple - Hope to increase attendance

o       Probability that Gala won’t be held every year

§         Over-exposure

§         Burn-out

§         Focus Group established to determine how to replace Gala fundraiser

o       Talk re using part-time development person

o       Committee chairs meeting with Trinity development director next week to brainstorm

Ø      Teacher Liaison – Faith Curran/Livvy King

o       Met recently with teacher reps

o       Dave Stewart also present to fine-tune work order process

o       Phone system being addressed

o       Preliminary work underway on school nurse issue

o       Inclinator issue also being addressed

Ø      Marketing – Therese Hills

o       1st meeting last week

o       Delineation of roles of marketing committee v. publicity, etc.

o       Primary activities for year discussed

§         Information Night

§         Forecast school enrollments more accurately

§         Targeted mailings to specific age mailings

§         Update Parents’ Handbook

§         Assembly and distribution of information packet for

§         incoming callers, plus follow-up by Board members

§         Advertising – e.g Central Penn Parent issue re preschools

o       Discussion re submitting information to Patriot, Catholic Witness, etc.

o       Subcommittee to handle that this year comprised of Julie Walker, Lori Diminick, Livvy King . . . send info to them

Ø      Day Care – Kathy Grogan

o       Enrollment at maximum

o       Looking for high school/college age student to work part-time with After School Program                     

Ø      Technology – Rick Long

o       Meeting October 10

o       Technology Plan reviewed and updated

o       Plan to be used by R. Emerick at Diocesan meeting

o       Anticipate $8000 allocation from Link-to-Learn this year

§         Use for data projector, scan converters, HP printer

o       Firewall and web filtering software being installed by systems engineer at no charge

o       Work night this Thursday

o       Budget expenditures reviewed

o       School video options discussed – i.e., producing video within school Options being reviewed for probable action

 

Old Business –

Ø      Question re new lunch program

o       Being well received

o       Salad option popular with many students

 

New Business –

Ø      Octoberfest – Kathy Grogan/Livvy King

o       Possible need for additional security detail later in evening

o       Need to set up permanent Octoberfest Committee

o       Look to find chair by first of year
