Approval of October Minutes

 

Chairperson’s Remarks – Dan Bates

Ø      Info re school website and related links

o       Encourage use by Board members; use as marketing tool also

Ø      Executive session to be held after regular meeting

 

Academic Update – Sr. Bernadette/Mrs. McMullin

Ø      Middle States Evaluation – Copy of report distributed to all Bd. members

Ø      Report on overall visit for Middle States – Mrs. McMullin

o       Visiting team impressed by school and community

o       Year-long, self-study of goals, current achievement levels, etc.

o       Development of plan/vision for future

o       2 major goals in strategic plan

o       Accreditation occurs when strategic plan accepted by commission on elementary schools

o       Development phase covers 6-10 years

Ø      Report on logistics of visit – Sr. Bernadette

o       Welcoming dinner included PowerPoint presentation of school

o       Impressed by involvement of fathers as well as mothers

o       Monday-Tuesday – actual classroom visits, including meeting with teachers and students

o       Also met with parents

o       Wednesday – Farewell luncheon following early dismissal

o       Preliminary oral report given by evaluators

§         Impressed by school, parental involvement,

§         Student involvement in morning prayer, etc.

o       Final approval decision to be made in spring

§         Early indications very positive

§         Suggestion by evaluators to apply for Blue Ribbon School status

 

Principal’s Report –             Sr. Bernadette

Finance Report – Dan Brown

Ø      Income to date – 30.87% of projected income; slightly under budget

Ø      Expenses at 34.77% – due to larger amt. of supplies purchased in fall semester

Ø      Reporting mechanism now set up between school office and Dan Bates to monitor tuition deficits, late payments, etc.

 

Teacher’s Representative Report –             Mary Forr

Ø      Children polite and cooperative to Middle States evaluators  

Ø      No other report this month

 

Home School Association Report –             Dan Bates

Ø      Smart money

Ø      Citrus sale

Ø      Candy/paper pick-up

 

Committee Reports

Ø      Development – Pam Barbush/Stephanie Kreysar

o       Website contains link to Gala, donor forms, service directory forms

o       Database in formation stages

o       Service directory in progress – mock-up to be reviewed first by parish council

o       10 new businesses inquired about Smart Money participation

o       Plan to look at education tax credit program – mail to Service Directory businesses in spring to encourage participation

o       Grant writing

Ø      Teacher Liaison – Faith Curran/Livvy King

o       Security issue re no fire alarm in gym – contact already made to rectify this – other in-school alarm also being repaired

o       School nurse issue being investigated – still underway

§         100+ “medically fragile” students

o       Issue re accessibility issue also being reviewed thoroughly

o       New areas: 

§         Dumpsters (odor/hygiene issue)

§         Walkie-talkies

§         Playground barriers/alleyway concerns

o       Kudos to Dave Stewart for help and availability

o       Concern with early arrival of Bingo players while After-School Program still ongoing – some arrive as early as 4:00 p.m. – issue to be raised with Bingo Al

Ø      Technology –       Rick Long

o       Met last Thursday

o       Web filtering/fire wall installed over weekend

o       Some faculty concerns with ability to access “good” sites. These concerns being addressed now

o       Kudos to Doug Musselman for website improvements

o       Looking at free anti-virus software offer to replace current software

o       R. Emerich received grant from diocese for digital camera & training

o       Question re availability of extra computer for daycare

§         Network line still in convent

§         Possible donations to be investigated
