Assistant Principal’s School
Board Report
March 15, 2004
q April Calendar (see back)
q Prospective New Students
February and March have been busy meeting prospective students and
their families. I’ve met with five
parents so far and have two interviews scheduled for this week. Four students have spent the day at Saint
Theresa’s so far ) 2 in fourth, 1 in second and 1 in third) and they’ve left at
the end of the day with smiling faces and enthusiastic responses. I know three of the families have already
registered. Our families are doing a
great job with word of mouth endorsements and our teachers and students are
truly our greatest assets! They make
everyone feel welcome as they walk in the door.
q
Bishop Dattilo Memorial Prayer Service
We heard small portions of Bishop Dattilo’s life
each morning last week and the week of
prayer and mourning ended this morning when 5A led a reverent and
informational prayer service in commemoration of Bishop Dattilo.
q PALs
The March PALs meeting was held on Tuesday, March 9th
in Room C of the Social Hall. Eight of
the fifteen parent contacts were present.
Among the topics discussed were the Swimming Program, dates for
curriculum fair and kindergarten graduation, confusion with
kindergarten/pre-school registration, and the safety of the choir walking to
and from church. The notes will be sent
to each of the parent contacts who in turn will pass them on to the parents of
their grade.
q Lunch Bunch
This month’s Lunch Bunch will be on Thursday, March
25th.
q Saint Patrick’s Day
The Student Council is making sure we celebrate the wearing of the
green by providing hats for the faculty to wear J
q Discipline
Those of you raising middle schoolers recognize the special joys and
challenges that accompany that age.
Like you we have certain procedures and rules in place in order to
provide a safe, healthy environment for all our students. We all know that many of our children, as
they enter their teen years, test the limits that have been set for them. At home, you have consequences that result
when the rules aren’t obeyed or your children “forget” to complete assigned
tasks. In this way we’re teaching our
young people personal responsibility and accountability for their actions, so
they’ll be prepared for the greater demands of high school, college and
employment. We appreciate your
cooperation with our discipline procedures and your recognition of our efforts
to work with you in educating future citizens.
Because most of our students are doing a terrific job of dealing with middle school, a difficult time of transition and challenge, we are in the process of initiating use of a privilege card, which the students will wear every day. It can be taken from a student for minor infractions like forgetting homework, being late to class, talking at the wrong time, etc. But, wearing the card can bring with it special surprises like free treats at lunch or free Friday on a Tuesday J or a surprise DOUD for anyone still in possession of their card. In this way, we hope to recognize all of the students who certainly deserve recognition for the great kids they are!
