March 8, 2010 Dear Grade 1B Families: Here is some information about our class.
Spelling - Our spelling words this week are day, way, say, play, wait, tail, rain, train, for, and to, and the challenge word is butterfly. Homework tonight is to write each word two times in the composition book. The test will be given this Friday and will include a dictation sentence.
Reading - Our reading words this week are how, light, little, live and pretty.
Religion - This week we will continue to learn about the sacraments. I would like each child to bring in a picture of his/her Baptism, if possible, to share with the class.
Phonics - This week in phonics we will continue our study of the long o vowel sound.
Math - This week in math we will learn about symmetry and we will slide, flip or turn an object and identify the resulting position.
Timed Math Test - We will have a timed math test on Friday. The sample test will be sent home today for practice. It does not need to be returned to school. The students will be give one minute and 15 seconds to complete the test. The math flash cards paper will be sent home today. Flash cards should be made and returned to school by Wednesday. Please make sure your child has the correct answers written in pencil on the back of the cards.
Home Reading - Please continue to read for a minimum of ten minutes with your child each night. Don’t forget to record it on the reading record form and send the form in at the end of the month for the Book-It Pizza Hut coupon. March is the final month of the Book-It Pizza Hut program.
Early Dismissal - Just a reminder that students will be dismissed this Friday, March 12 at 11:30 am. I will need a note if your child is going home in a way that is different from his/her usual routine.

Stations of the Cross Play - We are learning about the Stations of the Cross and will be acting it out on Thursday, March 25 at 2:30 pm in our classroom. Parents and friends are welcome to come and watch. Parts for the play were chosen last week. Please help your child practice reading his/her lines (it doesn’t have to be memorized) and make a simple costume for it. Thanks!
