Dear Families,

     Welcome to the 2022-23 school year at Saint Theresa School! I am very excited to be writing to you as one of the Kindergarten teachers! For those of you who do not know me, my name is Mrs. Maria Malay.  I am originally from San Francisco, CA. I graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and I’ve taken a couple of semesters of Master degree Art classes at Millersville University. I met my husband, Bill, in California but he is originally from Syracuse, New York. Bill graduated from Houghton College, New York , Asbury Seminary, Kentucky and has a Spiritual Direction Degree from the Epiphany Institute, Pittsburgh. He is the Executive director of a Counseling ministry.  We have four wonderful children. My oldest, Bill, has graduated from Trinity High School and from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, in Computer Science and has recently been hired by an international company. Gigi graduated from Trinity and is now a senior at Houghton College, New York and loves playing percussion instruments and studying Psychology. Benji also graduated from Trinity and is attending RPI near Albany, New York, and studying Chemical Engineering. Lucia, is a senior at Trinity and loves music and sports and is interested in studying Neuroscience in college next year.  All four of my children are Saint Theresa Alumni and received an excellent academic foundation. They were all well prepared as they entered high school. They have been blessed with the education from Saint Theresa School.

     I met my husband after serving with a parachurch drama ministry team and studying Italian and the bible in a small Bible school near Rome, Italy. We were married near my home in San Francisco, California.

      I have been teaching early elementary for many years. I started out teaching preschool and then first grade for many years in a small Christian school in California. I also taught middle school for a year before I took a break to get married, then have and raise our 4 children. When we moved east, I homeschooled our children until we settled here in Pennsylvania. Then we put our children into Saint Theresa School, and I began to teach Kindergarten and preschool in various public and private schools in the area. Then, I was hired as the Little Saints Coordinator at Saint Theresa School and 2 years ago, I was hired as a Kindergarten teacher.
